Pixelhobby Designer gives you two options – either convert a photo into a Pixelhobby pattern or design your own project from scratch.

The design software is compatible with both standard and XL pixels so you can tailor your project to the pixel size that suits you.

How to Convert a Photo

  • Open Pixelhobby Designer
  • Click 'Import A Picture' and upload your image
  • Choose your project size and click the green tick
  • Click 'Pixel-mode' to switch between 'Classic' Standard pixels and 'XL'
  • The design software will automatically choose the best colours for your picture, but you can edit your image using 'Color settings', 'Color quantity' and 'Dithering'
  • You can also manually edit by selecting the pixel colour you want from the list on the right (or using the eyedropper) and then clicking the pixels you want to change to that colour

How to Design Your Own Project

  • Open Pixelhobby Designer
  • Click 'Start An Empty Design'
  • Choose your project size and click 'Start Design'
  • Click 'Pixel-mode' to switch between 'Classic' Standard pixels and 'XL'
  • Selecting the pixel colour you want from the list on the right and then click the pixels you want to change to that colour

Once you’re happy with your pixel project, name it in the top right-hand corner and then click ‘Save Pattern’ to download your pixel instructions. The first page will include a list of all the required materials for your project.

Use our Pixelhobby Standard and XL Colours list to easily add the pixelsquare sheets you need to your shopping cart. Don’t forget to add baseplates and any accessories you may need to complete your project!

Design Software Tips

  • When printing your instructions, make sure to scale the pattern to 100% so it fits perfectly with the baseplate size
  • Larger projects with more baseplates will also produce clearer pixel pictures
  • Better quality photos generally produce better results – make sure your photo is larger than 1 MB
